The best standalone commission tracking software for most life and health insurance agencies is NextCommission Solo, which the vendor designed for agencies selling health, senior, and life policies and which handles sub-agent payouts at a published price with a 30-day trial. Commission Tracker is the lowest-cost option for agencies paying sub-agents, and AgencyComp suits individual agents who do not pay sub-agents. Two other standalone products, ComTrack and CommissionIQ, are not recommended; the reasons are explained below. “Standalone” here means one thing: you can buy the product without adopting the same vendor’s agency management system.
Why Commission Tracking Is Its Own Buying Decision for Life and Health Agencies
For a life and health agency, commissions are the revenue. They arrive as carrier statements in formats that differ by carrier, often monthly and often as renewals on business written years earlier. Group business often carries layered payouts — base commissions, bonuses, splits, and overrides across producers and carriers. Medicare products differ too: some pay consistently over time, while others pay most of the commission up front with smaller residuals later (AgencyBloc commissions guide, retrieved September 2026). Agencies with sub-agents also have to pay out splits and overrides, and produce statements those agents can trust.
Spreadsheets break under that load in two ways: payments that never arrive go unnoticed because nothing flags an expected payment that is missing, and sub-agent payouts become a monthly manual calculation. Commission tracking software fixes both by matching each statement line to a policy and a payee, then comparing what arrived with what was expected.
Many agencies already have a CRM or agency management system they are not ready to replace. That is the situation this article addresses.
What This Article Ranks — and What It Excludes
Existing “best commission software” lists mix three different kinds of product. This article ranks only one.
- Ranked: standalone commission tracking platforms. Software an agency can buy and run on its own, alongside whatever CRM or agency management system it already uses.
- Excluded: commission modules inside an agency management system. Commission tools sold only as part of an agency management system can be good, but buying one means adopting that vendor’s agency management system. Those systems are covered in our life and health agency management system comparison.
- Excluded: carrier-side distribution compensation systems. Vertafore markets Sircon Compensation under its solutions for carriers, and EvolveNXT describes its platforms as built for insurance carriers. They are built to pay a carrier’s distribution force, not for an agency reconciling what carriers paid it.
The mixing is easy to find: EnrollHere’s 2026 list of commission software, for example, places Sircon Compensation, a carrier system, alongside agency tools without separating them.
A fourth group is covered separately below: services that retrieve statements from carrier portals and deliver them into whatever commission platform an agency uses. They describe themselves as carrier or back-office automation, not commission software, and are not ranked.
How We Evaluated These Platforms
We evaluated options for an independent agency with one to twenty staff selling health and benefits, senior/Medicare, or life and disability policies.
- Standalone purchase. The product can be bought without the vendor’s agency management system. This is a pass/fail gate.
- Life and health commission handling. Recurring renewals, per-member group business, Medicare schedules, advances, and chargebacks.
- Statement intake. How statements get in: upload formats, carrier mapping, automated retrieval, or a done-for-you service.
- Reconciliation. Expected-versus-received comparison and flagging of missing or short payments.
- Sub-agent payouts. Splits, overrides, downline hierarchies, agent statements, and agent portal access.
- Pricing and terms. Published pricing, contract length, and trial availability.
- Data security and HIPAA posture. Published security practices and Business Associate Agreement availability.
- Path forward. Whether client and policy data entered for commission matching can move with the agency if it later adopts a full agency management system.
1. NextCommission Solo
NextCommission Solo is the standalone version of the NextCommission add-on to the NextAgency agency management and CRM software, built for benefits, senior, and life agencies that want commission and sub-agent management while keeping their current CRM or agency management system.
Strengths
- Designed for agencies selling health, senior, and life policies (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026).
- The same commission toolset as the NextAgency add-on, sold separately: the vendor states NextCommission Solo “delivers the same features and benefits of the add-on” (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026). It tracks commissions, overrides, fees, and bonuses, flags missed and reduced payments, and handles multi-level hierarchies.
- Built around case records, not just payment lines. NextCommission Solo includes client and prospect management, policy management, contact management, files, tasks, notes, workflows, and automatic compliance form creation (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026). Commission matching depends on accurate client and policy records, so the agency’s book is stored in the vendor’s data model from the start.
- Sub-agent management: standard or custom split schedules applied automatically, production tracking for internal and external sub-agents, sub-agent commission statements, tasks and notes by sub-agent, and email campaigns to sub-agents (vendor product overview, verified September 2026).
- Reporting depth. The vendor’s reports documentation lists 11 commission table reports, including Reconciliation, Unpaid Clients Commission, Variance to Expected, Variance to Prior, Commission History, and Sub-Agents Statements, plus 8 commission pivot-table reports summarizing commissions by broker of record, carrier, client, product, sub-agent, and sub-agency (vendor reports documentation, retrieved September 2026). Reports export to Excel.
- Dashboards with commission tiles. Users can build multiple dashboards, private or shared, from 29 dashboard tiles (vendor business analytics page, verified September 2026). Commission-focused tiles include Commissions and Sub-Agents; Commission Statement Added By Date Entered; Commission Statement Added By Date Received; Commissions Received by Date Entered; Commissions Received By Receipt Date; Commissions Received By Paid To Date; Sub-Agent Case Count – Top 10; Recent Sub-Agent Task Activity; and Recent Sub-Agent Note Activity.
- A Business Associate Agreement is part of sign-up: the agency signs a BAA when it starts its free trial (vendor FAQ and sign-up process, verified September 2026).
- A clear path forward. Because NextCommission Solo is the same commission toolset as the NextAgency add-on and already holds client, policy, and contact records, an agency that later adopts NextAgency’s full agency management system is not rebuilding its book from scratch.
Limitations
- No direct carrier download. The vendor states that life and health carriers “almost never enable third parties to access commissions” (vendor product overview, verified September 2026). Statements come in by upload, manual entry, an integration with the third-party retrieval service Carrier Connect AI, or the paid NextAssistant entry service.
- A higher entry price for a one-person shop than Commission Tracker ($67 per month) or AgencyComp ($39.95 per month), since NextCommission Solo is sold in five-seat packs.
- Optional sub-agent portal access costs extra: External Users, who can view and download their own commission statements, start at $30 per user per month (vendor product overview and FAQ, verified September 2026).
- Available only to agencies located in the United States (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026).
Pricing
$160 per agency per month for up to five users, or $1,600 per year ($133.33 per month equivalent), with each additional five seats priced the same (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026). Seats are users of the software, not producers or sub-agents receiving commissions. Month-to-month with no long-term contract, a 30-day free trial, no limit on commission statements uploaded, and licensing fees guaranteed for at least 12 months. Optional NextAssistant statement entry is priced at a $100 per agency base fee plus $5.00 per commission statement plus $0.08 per commission record (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026). Zapier integration is $12.50 per agency per month, and API access carries a $50 one-time fee with the first 10,000 requests per month free. A Switching Assistance Program halves NextCommission Solo fees for up to six months, or for the remainder of an existing contract with another commission vendor, whichever comes first.
2. Commission Tracker
Commission Tracker is dedicated commission tracking software with flat per-agency pricing, an optional done-for-you processing service, and more than two decades in the market.
Strengths
- Commissions are the whole product: statement import, carrier rate tables, agent splits, multi-level overrides and downlines, and house accounts (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026).
- Imports Excel, CSV, and PDF statements, with a PDF-to-Excel converter and saved mappings for hundreds of carrier layouts, including Aetna, Aflac, Colonial Life, Humana, MetLife, and Mutual of Omaha (vendor FAQ and features page, verified September 2026). Carrier Connect AI, a third-party retrieval service, lists Commission Tracker among its integrations (Carrier Connect AI site, verified September 2026).
- Reconciliation reports: Agency Payments Received, Accounts Receivable for missing commissions, payment discrepancy flags against expected carrier rates, and Agent Commissions Earned statements (vendor features page, verified September 2026).
- The lowest published price among the ranked products for full sub-agent payout support, with an agent portal included from the Small Agency plan up.
- An optional, separately priced Commission Processing Service, in which the vendor’s staff enter and reconcile statements for agencies that do not want to do it themselves.
- Longevity: the vendor states the product was developed 23 years ago (vendor about page, verified September 2026).
Limitations
- Not a browser application. The vendor states Commission Tracker Cloud is accessed over a secure remote desktop connection; only the agent portal runs in a browser (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026).
- No free trial is published; the stated path is a live demo.
- A one-time $120 setup fee on every plan.
- No published HIPAA or Business Associate Agreement position: the vendor’s privacy policy does not address HIPAA, and its sitemap lists no security or HIPAA page (checked September 2026).
- Stores client and policy records for matching but is not a CRM; the vendor positions it for agencies that pair it with a separate CRM.
- Geographic availability is not disclosed; the vendor’s terms and conditions name California law but do not state where the software may be used.
Pricing
Independent Agent: $67 per month with one user license. Small Insurance Agency: $67 per month plus $1 per agent license, for 5 to 50 producers, so $72 per month in total at the five-agent minimum. Medium: $114 per month plus $1 per agent, two user licenses, from $119 per month. Large: $161 per month plus $1 per agent, three user licenses, from $166 per month. Every plan has a one-time $120 setup fee (vendor plan pages, verified September 2026). The Commission Processing Service starts at $187 per month, including four hours of processing at $30 per hour and one user license. All software plans are month-to-month with no contract (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026).
3. AgencyComp
AgencyComp is a low-cost online commission tracker for individual agents and brokerage general agents that need to know what they are owed rather than run sub-agent payroll.
Strengths
- The lowest published price in this comparison, with a 14-day free trial that requires no credit card (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026).
- Calculates and projects commissions for a wide range of products, including Medicare Advantage, fee-based, graded, target-premium, and percentage-of-premium products, with revenue projections up to 10 years (vendor site and partner page on the vendor’s domain, verified September 2026).
- Compares expected commissions with those received, with a 12-month lookback on commissions received and missed.
- Tracks debit balances on advanced commissions, useful for agents on advance schedules.
- The vendor states it is HIPAA compliant (vendor pricing page FAQ, verified September 2026).
Limitations
- Sub-agent payouts are basic: the vendor states its Commission Statement report “provides basic commission statement reporting for agents paid on a fixed percentage of commission” (vendor FAQ, verified September 2026). Multi-level overrides are not described.
- Additional users can only add data; they cannot see reports or the account profile.
- Plans are capped by client count.
- No Business Associate Agreement process is described alongside the HIPAA claim.
- US-based agents only.
Pricing
Pro: $39.95 per month for up to 500 clients and one additional user. Select: $54.95 per month for up to 5,000 clients and three additional users. Premier: $64.95 per month for up to 10,000 clients and five additional users (vendor pricing page, verified September 2026). Month-to-month, cancel anytime, with a 14-day free trial.

Why These Products Were Not Recommended
ComTrack. ComTrack is standalone, web-based commission software with built-in retrieval of statements from carrier portals, and its trust center lists SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA compliance (ComTrack Trust Center, retrieved September 2026). But when we retrieved its homepage on September 23, 2026, the page code contained casino-advertising text and links placed off-screen, where visitors do not see them but search engines and AI crawlers do. Hidden links of this kind usually mean a website has been compromised or is not being monitored, and if a vendor’s marketing website can be compromised without its noticing, buyers are left to wonder what else is lax. Given the sensitivity of the client and commission data an agency would share with a commission platform, we cannot recommend it. If ComTrack cleans up its website, we will reconsider it.
CommissionIQ. CommissionIQ is standalone commission software with published pricing and a 14-day free trial. But its website identifies no company behind the product — no address, no founding date, and no leadership — and its terms of service name only Florida law as governing (vendor site, retrieved September 2026). An agency cannot evaluate, or hold accountable, a vendor it cannot identify. Given the sensitivity of the client and commission data an agency would share with a commission platform, we cannot recommend it.
Statement Retrieval: The Layer Underneath
Statement retrieval services log into carrier portals with the agency’s credentials, download commission statements, and deliver them into whatever system the agency already uses. They do not reconcile or pay commissions themselves, and they describe themselves as carrier or back-office automation, so they are not ranked here.
Carrier Connect AI is the dedicated vendor in this layer that we could verify. It states it connects to more than 1,300 carrier portals, converts PDF statements to Excel, and uploads commissions to the agency’s system (vendor site, verified September 2026). Among the ranked products, it lists integrations with NextAgency and Commission Tracker; it does not list AgencyComp. Pricing is not published openly; the site offers a pricing estimator after a work email is entered.
The alternative is a done-for-you entry service: NextCommission Solo and Commission Tracker both sell one, where the vendor’s staff enter the statements the agency sends them. NextAgency states that Carrier Connect AI can also send statements to it directly.
Retrieval is worth paying for when an agency spends meaningful staff hours each month downloading statements from many carrier portals. An agency with a handful of carriers usually gets more from a good import tool than from a retrieval subscription.
A Note on Property and Casualty Agencies
The criteria above do not transfer to P&C. P&C commissions follow policy transactions — new business, endorsements, cancellations, and audits — and P&C carriers can deliver direct bill commission statements electronically into the agency management system through Ivans Download’s Direct Bill Commission Statement feature (Ivans, verified September 2026). That electronic path runs into the agency management system, so P&C commission work is organized around the agency management system’s accounting; Applied Systems, for example, argues reconciliation belongs inside the agency management system rather than in a bolt-on tool. The sub-agent hierarchies, per-member group renewals, and Medicare schedules that drive the life and health criteria above are not the central problem.
P&C agencies that need more than their agency management system provides can look at reconciliation layers that work alongside the agency management system, such as Synatic CommRecon, which cross-references agency management system and carrier data to reconcile direct bill commission payments from carriers and commissions paid to producers. Carrier Connect AI, described above, also lists P&C systems such as Applied Epic and EZLynx among its integrations. See our P&C agency management system comparison for the systems these tools attach to.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can any of these tools download commission statements from carriers automatically?
None of the ranked products retrieves statements from carrier portals on its own. They rely on uploads, manual entry, or a done-for-you entry service. Agencies that want automated retrieval can add a retrieval service such as Carrier Connect AI, which lists integrations with NextAgency and Commission Tracker among others.
Does commission tracking software need a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement?
We believe so. Commission statements for health, Medicare, and group business carry client names, policy numbers, and plan details. NextCommission Solo’s sign-up process includes a BAA, signed when the agency starts its free trial. Commission Tracker’s privacy policy does not address HIPAA, and AgencyComp states it is HIPAA compliant without describing a BAA. Ask every vendor for a signed BAA before loading health or Medicare statements.
Should we use standalone commission software or an agency management system with commissions built in?
Standalone makes sense when the agency is keeping its current CRM or agency management system and commissions are the problem to solve. An agency management system with commissions built in makes sense when the agency is also replacing its client and policy software, because commission matching depends on accurate policy records and one system avoids keeping two copies in sync. Some standalone products, such as NextCommission Solo, come from vendors whose agency management software uses the same commission tools, which shortens a later move. This article does not assess whether an agency’s current CRM or agency management system is adequate; it assumes the agency plans to keep it.
